PHYSICS

Exploring Creation with Physics

Dr. Jay L. Wile

Apologia ministries

Course Description:   This college-prep physics course is designed for the student who has completed algebra and has had an introduction to the definitions of sine, cosine, and tangent. It provides a detailed, rigorous foundation to the methods and concepts of general physics. Heavily emphasizing vector analysis, this text is ideal preparation for a university-level physics course. It provides the student with a strong background in one-dimensional and two-dimensional motion, Newton’s laws and their application, gravity, work and energy, momentum, periodic motion, waves, optics, electrostatics, electrodynamics, electrical circuits, and magnetism.

Labs:  Exploring Creation with Physics contain 34 labs covering topics such as velocity, acceleration, air resistance, vectors, horizontal speed, inertia, frictional force, centripetal force, energy, momentum, Hooke’s Law, frequency and volume of sound waves, real and virtual images, simple circuits, Oersted’s experiment and much more.

Pacing:  This text contains 16 modules. Each module should take you about 2 weeks to complete, as long as you devote 45 minutes to an hour of every school day to studying physics.

Text Book set:  This kit is comprised of three pieces. The hardbound text contains all student material, on-your-own questions and solutions, laboratory exercises, and chapter study guides. The Solutions and tests Manual, softbound, offers the answers to chapter study guides, tests, and test solutions. The third piece is the CD-ROM companion, which includes videos of some of the experiments, animations, and pronunciations of previously unknown words.

(Set is $79.00 at Exodus Provisions)

Before class begins…

Students must come prepared to the first class having read and answered questions from Module 1!

Aug. 26 – Read Student note pages – pp. i-iii – REALLY read them!  Look at the Appendix A-C

at the back of the book just so you’ll know what’s available. Make a science notebook and lab notebook.

Aug. 27 – Read/study p. 1-4. Memorize bold terms, bold text, and centered text (p. 3 and 4). If you don’t remember what he said about memorizing the bold text, reread bottom of p. i. Always study/memorize the terms that day. Review them every day. I would recommend writing them down in list form (3x5 cards) so it’ll be easy to study for the test.

Aug. 28 – Read/study p. 5-8. Make sure you study and work through (on paper) the examples. Also study the figures. Do OYO (On Your Own questions), p. 8; always correct (p. 30). Put answers in science notebook. Label the page, “OYO” with page number.

Aug. 29– Read/study p. 8-12; OYO p. 12; correct. Study/work through the Example. If you don’t spend time studying the text and working through the examples (with paper and pencil!), you’ll be lost later.

Sept. 1– Read/study p. 12-13; OYO p. 13; correct.

Sept. 2– Read/study p. 13-16

Sept. 3– Read/study p. 17-20; OYO p. 20; correct. Bold text p. 17. Make sure you’ve read through all labs.

Sept. 4– First day, Co-op class
