Students need to have desire to learn Chemistry, and an adequate math background-strong knowledge of algebra is essential.

Description:  This class is intended to be a college preparatory class rather than a survey class so it will challenge the students.  It will include basic chemistry concepts to be studied with emphasis on atomic structure, chemical bonding, nomenclature, physical states of matter, properties of gases, chemical equations, stoichiometry, acid-base and oxidation-reduction concepts, chemical kinetics, and thermodynamics.  Lab experiments will be performed.  Tentatively I plan on having 1 Thurs. morning timeslot devoted to lab every 3 or 4 lectures.  Lab write-ups will be completed by student at home.  I also tentatively plan on a visit to my lab for tour purposes & experiments that might be a bit more hazardous.

Homework:   Read each chapter and work on each problem assigned.  A fair amount of reading and homework is expected of each student.  Exams will be administered periodically so as to evaluate the progress of the students.  Parents will need to keep student accountable for all homework, lab journals, and exam readiness.
