Southwest Harbor Co-Op Initiative

Our purpose: To strengthen the shared wellbeing of the Quietside community by creating abundance together through food.

Our Core Values

  • Run a sustainable, cooperative grocery store

  • Offer year-round access to fresh food for every budget

  • Support the people who grow, harvest, fish, and make food in the local food economy

  • Bring together residents of all abilities, ages, and backgrounds in collaboration and reciprocity

How to Get Involved

This initiative is in an early phase, seeking to understand what our community wants and needs from a local grocery option. Below are two ways to be part of this process.

#1: Survey

Start with our quick survey (5 - 10 minutes) to share your perspective with the planning committee. The survey asks about your current grocery shopping habits, what you'd most want a local co-op to provide, and the groups we should seek input from in this planning process.Your answers will directly shape how we move forward.

#2: Listening Sessions

You're invited to attend any or all of the community listening sessions we'll host in early 2026.At these meetings, we will share what we’re hearing from the survey and ask for your ideas on what a co-op should look like here on the Quietside.Whether you are a year-round resident, seasonal worker, local producer, or someone who simply cares about food and community, your input matters. The first listening session will be Wednesday, February 4th from 5 - 6:30 PM at the Southwest Harbor Public Library.
